First of all, I have to say I'm a fan of MiliEd. If I was a Labour supporter, he'd be my man of choice. But this, I'm afraid, is quite weak. Firstly, I notice he's standing outside Bermondsey station talking to people coming out. So it's extremely questionable just how many of those people are actually from Simon's constituency.
Secondly, the provenance of the interviewees is completely irrelevant because we don't actually get to see the reaction from any of them. If this was a really successful little jaunt across London, surely Ed would be showing us all of Simon's angry constituents who feel betrayed?
I wouldn't be surprised if the lack of any angry response from real people in Ed's video is because it just wasnt there. Given today's YouGov poll showing that despite all of the smear tactics being employed by Labour trying to spread fear about the budget, it is actually 'tough, fair and popular' this isn't an unreasonable thing to think. Factor in that 69% of Lib Dem voters (page six, here) think the Lib Dem leadership was right to back the budget and that Simon Hughes is a very popular MP in his constituency, and I'd say this wasn't the smartest of moves from MiliEd.
Quite funny, really. From 0:15 to 0:24 you see Ed handing out flyers like one of those annoying people you often find in London to disinterested passers-by who don't even seem to acknowledge who he is and then it looks like he's getting a bit of back-chat from the woman with blonde curly hair!
I do like you Ed, but pick your battles.
